The 1970s are arguably the golden era of Nike shoes, the decade produced some of Nike's most iconic running shoes that are still inspiring their designs today, almost 50 years later. Similar in design to some of the other Oregon classics local brand - namely LDV and Air Tailwind '79 - the Daybreak features an early revolutionary piece of Nike technology: the waffle outsole.

Few brands are praised for their outsoles, but as early as the 1970s, the search for a sole that wouldn't lose grip on a variety of surfaces led to the invention of the legendary waffle outsole. The story of the invention of Nike founder Bill Bowerman is reflected in the history of the shoe industry: Apparently, Bill's eureka moment came when he was sitting at the breakfast table over a waffle plate. The waffle iron outsole experimenting with swapping dough for urethane was a turning point, offering adhesive-like grip on a variety of treads.

Known as the groundbreaking Nike silhouette, the Nike Daybreak has a nylon and suede upper, an EVA midsole and a waffle outsole that offers shock absorption and traction in equal measure. An additional cup insole ensures that the pressure is increased and distributed over the entire foot.
